Argentina met the Hilton quota for Europe

After more than a decade of non-compliance, Argentina managed to make almost 100% of meat shipments of the Hilton quota for Europe. The value of the ton sold was us$ 12,450. In the 2017/2018 cycle, which ended on June 30 last, it exported more than 28,000 tons, on a quota of 29,500 tons. Argentina is the country with the highest percentage of Hilton quota that Europe has for the world, with 45%.

The Ministry of Agribusiness was in agreement with the more flexible distribution system that ensured its fulfillment by awarding an additional grant to the compliers and punishing with a discount in the volume to those who did not reach a certified tonnage. Years before, only 20 meat packing plants participated, this cycle was more inclusive: 53 operators participated. Mario Ravettino, president of the Consorcio de Exportadores de Carnes Argentinas (ABC), said that the sector “took advantage of the export cycle very well”. “Forwards it would be good to close a good agreement between Mercosur and the European Union to have more volume, and the meat packing plants still has a lot of idle capacity to work 100%.”

As for the new cycle, which runs from July 1, 2018 to June 30, 2019, the participating companies of the previous cycle will be granted the actual export, but a penalty will be applied to those that have not complied with the quota they asked for. For the new cycle the application was implemented via the Internet, through the Platform of Remote Procedures (TAD) in www.tramitesadistancia.gob.ar. The online procedures that will be implemented to save time because the companies that are in the interior should not go to the Ministry.
