Institutional Quality
and Quality of Life Indices
The Institutional Quality Index (IQI) is a tool that cross-references eight indicators from international organizations to assign a score to 216 countries. A higher score reflects better institutional quality, which results in greater security for the protection of its inhabitants' rights.
The IQI is an indicator of the Liberal Network for Latin America (RELIAL) and has been prepared annually since 2007 by Martín Krause (Ph.D. in Administration and Professor of Economics at the University of Buenos Aires) in collaboration with the Libertad y Progreso Foundation, though available measurements date back to 1996. It averages a series of international indicators such as the Rule of Law, government accountability, perceptions of corruption, economic freedom, and the ease of doing business within each country.
